RASA Committees come in two flavours: Societies and Teams. RASA Societies are based around a certain interest, for instance music, theatre, or cooking. Their goal is to organise events for people sharing this interest, and in that way bring students together. Examples of these countless events include the monthly Open Mic, the Christmas Play, and the Masterchef Cooking Competition.
Each RASA Team serves a specific goal of RASA, for instance organising the Summer Trip, making the yearbook, or maintaining the website. Every year, these teams are open for everyone to join, and they will also always have a RASA board member in them.
Then there are of course also some groups that do not fall under RASA, but that are also run by UCR students and form an important part of the UCR community. These are what we call Student Initiatives and they include the Roosevelt College Choir, Prism, Ad Astra, and many others.
Student Initiatives are not to be confused with the Student Suggestion Fund. This is money reserved by RASA for spontaneous ideas students might have during the semester. Since the RASA budget is decided on only once per semester, this fund is needed to still fund new plans after the Budget GA at the beginning of the semester. It can be used for anything that fits RASA's purpose. Do you have an idea for what this money should be spent on? Send us an email at [email protected]! Include your plan, how much money you would need and what for, and the RASA board will try to reply within 2 business days.
