We as the Amnesty International Student Group Middelburg work towards increasing awareness of human rights issues both in the Netherlands and across the world. By organising various activities involving the student body we help the UCR community look beyond the interests of our own society and build pressure for change.
Whether it is fighting for the Justice of a torture survivor in Mexico, fighting to ban mass government surveillance in America or eliminating homophobia in Europe, we take a critical look and address the topics. With the combination of our young creative minds, our liberal education system and our infinite access to people across the globe (via internet), as a small group of UCR students, we are confident that together we can make a difference.
As Peter Singer said, “We have the same moral obligation to help someone who is standing right next to us as someone being thousands miles away from us.”
